From basic mani-pedis all the way to medi-spa options such as Botox, ship spas offer a menu of services that rival their poshest land counterparts. Why not splash out on a relaxing massage or facial, or get your hair and makeup done at sea? You know you want to look fabulous in all of those cruise photos!

Ship spas have evolved to the point that they now cater to two types of clients: Those who like to stop in and enjoy one more ship amenity, and devotees who are looking for a transcendent experience in an onboard destination spa.

Costa Cruise Lines, for example, offers immersive wellness cruises and its excusive Samsara Spa on its Crociere ship, where clients can enjoy therapeutic massages, Ayurvedic rituals – a massage technique that uses ancient Indian body-balancing principles – along with body and face care. The spa includes a Temple of Relaxation and a Japanese Tea Room. Pleasure, regeneration and relaxation are the goals here. All services may be booked onboard.

Celebrity Cruises, meanwhile, offers AquaSpa on Solstice, Equinox, Eclipse, Silhouette and Reflection ships. To calm, balance and energize, its clients, it offers everything from 24-karat gold facials to clear your complexion to seaweed massages to ease arthritis and other pains, and fire and ice pedicures for an “unbelievable” feeling. Afterwards, you can take your spa experience over the top by fueling up on fresh, light, healthy fare at the spa’s own restaurant, AquaSpa Café.

Another spa option cited as a standout is Royal Caribbean’s Vitality@Sea, found on Freedom, Independence and Liberty of the Sea. These facilities offer enormous gym complexes that include cruising’s first boxing rings, plus Pilates, yoga, Tai Chi, boot camp and cycling. Check your cardio rate on LED screens on all machines, then take in the beautiful blue sea through windows that ring the gym.

Along with feeling energized, you’ll most likely make wiser choices at dinnertime after putting in all that work and sweating it out in the gym.
