Jamaica Turns Up the Volume for the Greatest Reggae Show on Earth

There are music festivals — and then there is Reggae Sumfest, Jamaica’s extraordinary celebration of reggae, dancehall, culture and Caribbean spirit.
First launched in 1993, Sumfest has grown into the largest music festival in Jamaica and the Caribbean, attracting audiences from across the region and around the world. Over the years its stages have welcomed some of Jamaica’s greatest musical names alongside major international stars, turning the festival into a truly global showcase for Caribbean sound.
What makes Reggae Sumfest so special is that it is far more than a concert. It is a celebration of the music Jamaica gave to the world — from roots reggae and dancehall to the new generation of artists carrying the island’s sound into the future.

The 2026 edition, presented as A Taste of Reggae Sumfest, took place on July 18 at Plantation Cove in St. Ann and brought Vybz Kartel and Mavado together on the same stage, with a wider line-up of Jamaican performers.
Reggae Sumfest also tells a bigger story about Jamaica itself. This small Caribbean island has produced a musical culture whose influence reaches virtually every corner of the planet. Reggae became a voice of freedom, identity and social consciousness; dancehall became a global force in popular music; and Jamaican artists continue to shape sounds far beyond the Caribbean.
