Caribbean Ministers met with Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of the effects of APD. Chairman

Caribbean Ministers met with Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of the effects of APD. Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Council of Ministers and Commissioners, the Hon. Richard Skerritt led a delegation to Scotland to meet with members of the Scottish parliament and discussed strengthening relationships between the Caribbean and Scotland as well as the impact of the UK’s Air Passenger Duty on the Caribbean tourism industry.

The Caribbean Ministers also met with Jim Mather, Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism in the Scottish Government, to present a copy of the report “The Impact of Air Passenger Duty and Possible Alternatives for the Caribbean”. The report highlights the APD’s negative impact on Caribbean tourism and proposes a new approach to the duty’s banding structure that would divide the world into two zones, creating a more equitable relationship between the distance travelled and the taxation of emissions.
