On May 6, 2025, André Martin Ebanks was sworn in as the Premier of the Cayman Islands, marking a significant shift in the territory’s political landscape. Ebanks, a lawyer by profession, represents the constituency of West Bay South and is the leader of the Caymanian Community Party (TCCP). His ascent to the premiership followed the 2025 general election, where no single party secured an outright majority. In response, the TCCP formed a coalition government with the Cayman Islands National Party (CINP) and three independent members, collectively known as the National Coalition For Caymanians (NCFC) .
Ebanks brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He holds a degree in sociology from Morgan State University, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Liverpool, and a Master’s in Legal Practice from Manchester Metropolitan University. Before entering politics, he practiced law, specializing in investment fund formation, restructurings, and liquidation. His legal background and commitment to public service are expected to influence his approach to governance.
As Premier, Ebanks leads a coalition government during a time of political realignment in the Cayman Islands. His administration is anticipated to focus on issues such as economic development, social equity, and environmental sustainability. The formation of the NCFC underscores a collaborative approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the Cayman Islands.
