Shakira’s hit song travels from a Colombian port city to a sandy Croatian beach
When Lebanese-Colombia pop sensation Shakira wrote, recorded and produced "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) in 2010 she worked with a South African band Freshly ground, and on its release in May 2010 it became the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was held in South Africa.
Shakira could not have imagined that, a decade on, the track would be re-recorded as an instrumental with a cello picking out the vocal line, in a low, melodic refrain. For in 2021 35-year-old Croatian cellist Hauser worked his trademark magic on "Waka Waka(This Time for Africa)” for a release that spent weeks in the Croatian music charts.
Filmed on a gorgeous beach, the accompanying video is another energy-filled joyous dance on the sand with Hauser - bow in hand - the maestro of the sun-dappled magic.
