Adam Stewart, CD, Hon. LLD, has long been at the forefront of Caribbean tourism. As Executive Chairman of Sandals & Beaches Resorts, he has transformed his family’s iconic brand into a global benchmark for luxury, all‑inclusive travel — all while championing education, community development, and environmental stewardship across the region.

From Family Legacy to Global Leadership

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1981 — the same year his father, Gordon “Butch” Stewart, opened the first Sandals resort — Adam Stewart grew up immersed in hospitality. His childhood was intertwined with the rise of what would become Sandals Resorts International (SRI), giving him an intimate understanding of the business from the ground up.

After earning his degree from the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University in Miami, Adam returned to the Caribbean, climbing rapidly through operational and senior leadership roles. He served as CEO in the mid‑2000s, later Deputy Chairman, before becoming only the second Executive Chairman in SRI history.

Driving Innovation and Expansion

Under Adam Stewart’s leadership, Sandals and Beaches Resorts have redefined the all‑inclusive experience through the “Luxury Included®” concept. This elevated approach prioritizes gourmet dining, premium accommodations, over‑the‑water villas, and bespoke guest experiences.

He has overseen the opening of resorts in new Caribbean destinations such as Curaçao and Saint Vincent, while championing safety and operational excellence — particularly during the global COVID‑19 pandemic.

Entrepreneurship Beyond Resorts

Adam Stewart’s vision extends beyond the hotel rooms:

  • Island Routes Caribbean Adventures – a premier tour company delivering immersive experiences across the Caribbean.

  • Strategic Brand Partnerships – introducing international brands like Starbucks® to select Caribbean markets.

  • The ATL Group – managing a diversified portfolio of Jamaican commercial ventures.

Commitment to Community and Education

In 2009, Stewart founded the Sandals Foundation, focusing on education, environmental conservation, health, and economic empowerment throughout the Caribbean. He also established the Sandals Corporate University / ATL Academy of Excellence, a training ground for hospitality professionals aiming to uplift the region’s workforce.

Recognition and Honors

Adam Stewart’s dedication has earned him numerous accolades:

  • Caribbean Hotelier of the Year (2015)

  • Order of Distinction (Commander Class), Jamaica

  • Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD), University of the West Indies

  • Ambassador and Special Investment Envoy for Jamaica (2023)

  • Member of The Wall Street Journal CEO Council

Leadership with Purpose

More than a business executive, Adam Stewart envisions tourism as a catalyst for social change. He blends economic growth with community empowerment, aiming to create opportunities that resonate far beyond the resorts’ boundaries , shaping the Caribbean’s future for generations to come.
