From Santo Domingo runways to orphanage hallways & Punta Cana paradise

The Story

Born in 1932 in Santo Domingo, Oscar de la Renta was fashion’s golden diplomat—trained under Cristóbal Balenciaga in Spain and Lanvin in Paris, this Dominican-born designer conquered Manhattan and countless red carpets  . But his legacy reaches far beyond gowns.

Oscar embraced his roots as one of La Romana’s most generous sons, founding the Hogar del Niño orphanage and school, which now serves up to 1,300 children daily. Using his star power, he fundraised, organized fashion shows, and built education into their care—fusing fashion, philanthropy, and hope  .

After his wife passed in 1983, Oscar adopted a young boy from the Dominican Republic, naming him Moises, and devoted decades to nurturing him and expanding his charity work—even designing locals’ uniforms and donating proceeds from Punta Cana boutique openings to support children’s education  .

Photo Spread Highlights

  • Coastal views of Tortuga Bay, Punta Cana, where Oscar lent his sleek design and style sensibilities to resort villas, infusing local materials with haute aesthetics  .

  • Images capturing his warmth: hosting dinner parties at Casa de Campo and initiating local fashion moments beside celebs like Julio Iglesias and Bill Clinton  .

Super Catty Says…

Oscar didn’t just dress the world—he elevated it.

He showed that style isn’t just about looks—it’s about grace, generosity, and giving every child a chance.

“He wore crowns of compassion, stitching together couture and care across his homeland.”

Julio Iglesias: Latin Heartthrob with a Caribbean Beat

From Puerto Rican roots to Punta Cana parties

The Story

Spanish icon Julio Iglesias has sold over 300 million albums, yet his Caribbean branches run deep. A rumored connection to Puerto Rican heritage via his grandmother gave him a sentimental pull toward Puerto Rico—he even spent a week walking Cayey’s streets undercover in 1986, seeking solace from superstar life  .

Since the mid-1980s, Julio has made Punta Cana peninsula a second home—investing, performing benefit concerts, and supporting Dominican communities with friend Oscar de la Renta  .

Musical Impact

His 1984 English crossover album, 1100 Bel Air Place, featured hits with Willie Nelson and Diana Ross, becoming a global smash and launching his international prestige  .

Couple that with Grammy-winning Spanish albums like Un Hombre Solo, and you have a Latin legend weaving his voice through both continents.
