It is one of the Bahamas’ great undiscovered escapes: a destination that offers sweeping untouched sands and pristine sparkling waters. The 50-mile-long island boasts the highest point in The Bahamas, Mount Alvernia - the home of a historic Hermitage monastery. However it is the incredible array of beaches that Cat Island is most famous for, most notably the soft pink sands of beautiful Greenwood Beach.

As one of the Caribbean’s best-kept secrets, Cat Island is now firmly on the travel map thanks to fast-expanding regional carrier Silver Airways. The airline’s recently-launched twice-weekly flights are already proving popular, serving Cat Island from Florida’s Fort Lauderdale International Airport.

Silver Airways offers connections from major cities across the United States, including New York City, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC thanks to interline agreements with JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Cat Island is the latest new route for Silver, which last year acquired Caribbean regional carrier Seaborne to build a broad route network in Florida, The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.

“We are thrilled to be adding Cat Island to Silver’s already extensive network of Bahamian Out Islands, which includes more routes between Florida and the Bahamas than any other airline,” said Silver Airways CEO Steve Rossum.

The service operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flights depart Fort Lauderdale at 12-noon, with return flights from Cat Island at 14:10.
